about bait so don't get confused. All the
above recipes will catch you and me plenty of
carp so you can be equally as confident with
them as I am. Should anybody Wish to know
anything about specific recipes for baits then
fed free to write to me: Julian Cundiff

Good fishing.
Over recent years 'pop-up' boilles have
become very popular. There arc two concepts
involved here. Firshy, a pop-up can mean that
the boilic is suspended anyWhere from just
below the surface to just above the bottom.
Generally, however, they arc set to float twO,
three or four inches from the bed, although a
midwaier boilic docs catch fish. Fished in this
way, the 'pop-up' is very much a novelty bait.
The carp sees it quicldy, makes a decision and
hopefully is hooked. The problem is, of
course, that pop-ups have a fairly short life
and the carp soon Wise up to what is a
blatantly obvious technique.
The second, less fully understood, concept
of the pop-up is more of a balanced bait. The
philosophy is that the boilie is made to some
extent buoyant so that it counterbalances the
weight of the hook. Therefore, when carp
. I
come into the sWim and begin to feed over a
bed of boilles, the hooked boilie behaves
exactly like the unhooked article. Thus, a carp
that sucks at a balanced boilie Will find that it
floats into its mouth With just the same ease as
'
one not attached to a hook or line. Also, when
the carp are feeding avidly, they stir the boilles
up With their fins and then turn round and
take them when they are ofren a little way ofi
the bottom. The balanced boilie behaves
perfectly in this respect and is easily sWirled from
the bed of the lake.
