Boiled bait 2
 
Boilles were intended for fish like these.
Firstly, why do boilles work? Well, we all
know carp are inquisitive creatures (as are
most species). They will investigate anything
that they find in their watery kingdom and
when that item resembles food it will be 
sampled and usually eaten. If you ever watch small
fish in an aquarium you Will see them suck up
stones, weed and all sorts of rubbish from the
bottom of the tank. To a carp , boilie is just
another food item like a snail, worm or piece
of flake. It will pick it up, either eat it or blow
it out and hopefully one day pick one up with
a hook in it. So don't think for one moment
boilles are mystical, magical items that drug
the carp, they are food items in the long food
chain of the fish. If they are made readily 
available and are acceptable, they will become a
major food item and will be taken readily
while the carp chew that form of food. To
certain extent, carp can almost be weaned of
to boilles, but a good hatch of snails, blood
worms or larvae Will soon tempt the carp back:
to its natural food sources. So don't get con-
fused by all the waffle you read. You are offering
the fish a food item, and it will choose it
if it wants it.
Having discussed why carp eat boilles, now
let's look at the different types of boilie there
are, and how to choose the one that Will suit
your fishing best. Just as there are different
styles of angling to catch carp, there are dif-
ferent forms of boilles to catch carp as well:
There is no wonder recipe of 3oz of this, 3oz
of that and 2fl oz of good luck -- and thank
goodness, too! Wouldn't it be horrible if we
found an irresistible bait? All the excitement
would would be taken out of our sport. So don't for
one minute think that one day you will have
the perfect boilie. You won't, because it does
not exist.
As we said earlier, boilles consist of dry
powder (the base mix) mixed with eggs (or
water) and flavour. It is the dry mix part that
determines What kind of boilie you will have.
Generally, the dry-mix part consists of milk
powders such as cascin, egg albumin, 
lactallumin, Which when mixed With the eggs and
boiled, form your bait. However, by varying
What goes into the dry mix we can change
what kind of a boilie it is. For most carp
anglers, there are five main types of boilie.
