<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">It's funny how just one bait can be viewed in<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">so many different ways by anglers today. To<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">non~carp anglers, talk of boiled baits, or<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">boilles as they are more commonly known,<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">brings to mind weird-smelling little round<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">things that can ruin fishing for general<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">anglers. However, mention boilles to the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">cap anglers and you will start an endless <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">discussion on fishmeal or bird seed, protein or<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">semolina, maple or cherry. A bit like a<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">favourite float, everybody has a faVourite<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">boilic and yet we all still experiment with new<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">ones each season..<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">So What is a boilie and what are all these<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">technical terms carp anglers talk about <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>nowadays? Well a boilie is, as its name suggests, </FONT></P>
<P ><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>an item that has been boiled in water to give it a </FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">hard skin. Usually, it consists of dry powder<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">added to eggs and flavour, mixed into a paste,<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">rolled into balls, boiled and fed to the carp,<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">Easy, isn't it?<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">While boilles have been around a long<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">time, they only became truly popular in the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">early to mid-1980s when carp angling took<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">off in a big way. Books such as Carp Fever and<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">The Carp Strikes Back dispelled the myths of<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">carp fishing as a secret society, and within<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">these books were contained stories and<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">secrets to inspire many anglers to take up carp<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">fishing. Recipes which had caught and, <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">probably more importantly, still did catch carp<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">were printed in full and now all carp anglers<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">would have an equal chance of catching those<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">illusive specimens. In a short period of time,<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">baits became commercially available and by<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">1984 you didn't even have to make your own<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">boilles as Richworth actually sold them, ready<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">rolled and ready to fish with. Now that the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">1990s are upon us, the boilie boom has<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">really taken over and at the last count there<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">were thirty-seven different companies in <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman"><st1:country-region><st1:place>England</st1:place></st1:country-region> alone selling boilles. Unfortunately, with<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">progress has come confusion: article after <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">article, pamphlet after pamphlet full of intricate<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">recipes and weird-sounding concoctions have<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">only served to confuse today's angler, rather<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">than educate or inform. So, in this chapter I<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>Will look at types of boilie,  how to make your </FONT></P>
<P ><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>Own boilies and one or two little tricks that </FONT></P>
<P ><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>Catch that favourite species of ours , the carp.</FONT></P>
