<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>crust was known as 'Cube' and the time<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>honoured method was to cut the bottom<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>crust off an unsliced loaf leaving a layer of crumb intact. This long length of crust was then dampened and left under two weighted<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>boards overnight. Once fishing, the strips<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>were merely cut into the desired hook size<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>Great care was taken to keep the crust away<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>from the sunlight because once it dried out<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>it was totally useless.<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>There is no doubt that this method of fishing<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>crust would work as well as ever but the more usual way today is merely to pull a piece of crust from a fresh loaf and push the hook through the crust so that the point comes up<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>into the white crumb.<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>Crust is, of course, very buoyant and shotting<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体> patterns must overcome this. It is as well<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>to check the bait out on the margins before<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>

<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>fine weed is a problem. It was to overcome the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>

<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>covered With silkweed, it is possible to fish a crust<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>sunk, With a running lead which should be as<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>small as possible, on the cast, stopped by a<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>shot an inch or more from the hook, <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>according  to the depth of the silkwecd or mud. The<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>buoyancy of the crust keeps it just above the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>level of the mud or weed. If the right <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>propertions of crust and paste are chosen, it can be<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>made to sink very slowly and will rest on the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>surface of the mud, or on silkweed without<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>sinking into it. The bait, if properly balanced,<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>takes a minute or tWo before beginning to<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>sink. The crust should be put on the bend of<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>the hook and the paste moulded round the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>shank. The bait then comes to rest With the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>line emerging from underneath, where it is<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>not encountered by the lips of a fish <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>investigating it.'<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>It was Walker, too, who developed the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>method of floating bread crust for carp. Of<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>course, this technique had been known before<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>but it was Walker and his group who took it to<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>refined lengths. <st1:City><st1:place>Walker</st1:place></st1:City> concentrated <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>particularly on margin fishing his crusts. He <p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>discovered that carp were very keen to Visit the<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>Windward shore of a lake at night to browse<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>

<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>become very used to floating pieces of bread<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>and, now that carp anglers seem exclusively<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>switched on to 'high tech' baits, a piece of<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>floating crust is often something that carp feel<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>very safe With. Floating crust also picks up its<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>fair share of big tench and rudd and, though<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>the bait does seem old fashioned, it is unWise<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P ><FONT size=3><FONT face=宋体>to neglect it entirely.<p></p></FONT></FONT></P>
